What is Bodybuilding?

While the conventional barbell squat is not absolutely necessary for developing massive legs, it should be a foundational exercise for those who can perform it safely and effectively without experiencing knee or back pain.

Both back and front squat variations are highly effective for loading the leg muscles, although the quadriceps tend to be the primary movers.

In bodybuilding, the range of movement is not judged, so there is no need to squat “butt to ankles” unless you have the necessary mobility and structural capability. Even then, squatting below parallel is not essential for muscle building purposes.

Bench Press

Deadlift
